DEADLY AUTO ACCIDENTS ON THE RISE AGAIN IN FLORIDA

It is always sad when you hear news of a rise in auto accident related deaths and injuries in Florida. Which is why it is challenging to report that data collected in recent history proves that the number of auto accidents resulting in personal injury and wrongful deaths rose dramatically over the past year in the face of extra vehicle safety equipment.

The rise in deadly car crashes, is the result of an increase to about 38,000 victims last year, as some reasons such as speeding and lack of seat belt. This steady increase in accidents reverses what seemed like a drop from 2007 to 2014. While the researchers hoped that deadly accidents would decrease because of the rise in the use of autonomous driving. However, what they didn’t anticipate was that being distracted when driving, increases accidents.

Speeding and carelessness are responsible for a 5 percent rise in deadly road accidents. Pedestrians getting struck and killed by moving vehicles rose by 10 percent over the past year. Drunk driving accidents caused a 2 percent rise.

The View of The AAA

According to a recent study by the AAA, it has been determined that giving auto owners access to more technology, especially touchscreen monitors, which includes dozens of driver assistant features, results in motorist losing their concentration for prolonged periods of time when on the road which inevitably leads to auto crashes. Distracted motorists alone caused nearly 9 percent of the deadly road accidents. The AAA insists that vehicle manufacturers should place restrictions on driver access to these features while the car is moving on the highway.

The AAA is of the view that manufacturers limit the use of communications and social media while driving. Unlike the routine use of regular vehicle controls to change the air conditioning or a radio station, never have vehicles become so sophisticated to the point that drivers can take their hands of their steering wheel for a dangerous time frame to accomplish tasks like using the navigation system or checking a text message.

Testing reveals that all cars require a high level of driver attention to make proper use of their infotainment systems. The fact that prior research has shown that whenever drivers are distracted, their risk of getting involved in auto collision doubles isn’t surprising. So, if a manufacturer allows drivers to text on the road, they are condoning in support of an activity they are aware is likely to cause auto crashes.

A Florida Car Accident Lawyer will agree with the AAA’s stipulation that motorists should be allowed use automobile technology for real emergencies or driving-related purposes. If you have been a victim of the above circumstances, a Florida Car Accident Lawyer will help you get what you are due.
