The Holiday season is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. It’s a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy the festivities and traditions, and cook your favorite Holiday foods.

Sadly, though, holidays are also a dangerous time for many drivers. During this time of the year, there are higher image1numbers of driving under the influence, arrests, and auto accidents. Driving under the influence can result in many negative and unfortunate consequences, such as arrest, jail time, hefty fines, serious bodily injury(s), and in some cases even death(s).  In 2010 alone, drunk driving accidents cost Americans 44 billion dollars in lost income, medical expenses, property damage, insurance costs, and legal expenses. In fact, between Thanksgiving and the end of New Year’s weekend, DUI arrests are at their all-time high. During this period, there tends to be an increase of traffic on the road and impaired drivers.

There are at least 300 people killed in alcohol-related car accidents in the United States in the few days surrounding Christmas and New Year’s Eve, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). While the facts regarding DUI’s and the Holidays are scary, it is essential to remember that DUI’s are 100% preventable.

If you are a victim of a DUI related accident, it is imperative to immediately call the police, seek treatment, and contact a personal injury attorney.
